The Sunday market at Baja Beans
May 17, 2026
If you only have one morning to understand what Cerritos / El Pescadero feels like, go to the Sunday market at Baja Beans.
Baja Beans is a local coffee roaster, located on the road known —not by coincidence— as Baja Beans Road. Weekdays it works as a coffee shop: sells its own blend, homemade pastries, and breakfast. But Sunday mornings it transforms.
What you'll find
A rotation of local artisans shows up with ceramics, jewelry, handmade clothing, incense, jarred salsas, local honey, and candles. Local farmers bring fruit, vegetables, bread, cheese, and eggs from nearby farms. A couple of musicians usually play in the patio.
It's not a tourist market in the sense of cheesy souvenirs. It's a market where you actually buy what you'll consume that week if you live here, mixed with serious artisans who live in the area.
Why it matters
Cerritos is a small, dispersed town. People live in houses separated by dirt roads, they don't see each other constantly. The Sunday market is one of the few places the community gathers — Mexicans from the town, resident expats, traveling surfers, visitors. If you arrive on a Saturday, this market the next day is the fastest possible introduction to "who's here."
Practical details
- When: Sundays, from early (around 8-9 AM) until noon.
- Where: Baja Beans, on Baja Beans Road in El Pescadero. It's attached to a small hotel (Perdito).
- Cash: bring pesos. Some stalls take card, others don't.
- What we recommend ordering: house coffee, almond croissant, and walking among the stalls before sitting down.
If you come in summer
Some vendors rotate or thin out between August and October due to the season. The market still exists but at smaller scale. Still worth it.
